It is official, BJ has his first cold. Such a bummer. He has done fairly well with it though, which is good. He was sent home from daycare Monday with reports of orange diarrhea, being fussy, and pink eye. The evidence for all of this was lacking, but I had Brandon take him to the doctor (I was on call) to prove he didn't have pink eye. I was a little frustrated that his own Dr. Mom's opinion wasn't enough but whatever. The diagnosis from the doc- likely viral pink eye, no drops, back to daycare. As the week has progressed it has become obvious that the somewhat pink tinged eye with minor mucus is from his cold- he is more congested and has been coughing some. Poor guy. He has been sleeping a ton at the house, but still struggles at daycare. According to his daily report today, he actually was put down 3 times for a nap within 1.5 hours and each time "slept" for 10 minutes. I brought him home and had to wake him up 2x to feed and he fell asleep feeding- something he hasn't done in a few months. Luckily despite his cough, he hasn't been waking himself up at night and is quite playful in the mornings. Poor guy though- we are anxious for him to get over it.
Mom is also sick :( We aren't sure if I got my cold from BJ or from the hospital, but it started after his. It doesn't help that I'm a bit sleep deprived between BJ's night feedings (which aren't bad at 10:30 but when I'm getting up at 5 a.m. to get ready for work) and my nights on call. Yesterday I was feeling pretty run down and laid down for a nap at 8:45 p.m. But today I have barely a squeak of a voice. Given it got worse throughout the day, I couldn't communicate with patients, and that i'm on call tomorrow, I took the afternoon as a sick day and came home to nap with BJ. I'm still feeling pretty run down, so I'm off to bed after this. I'm planning on having my intern do most of the talking on call tomorrow, but you could all pray for a lighter call day and night. After Sat. morning rounds though I'm on a 8-5 M-F schedule for all of Feb!! Yeah! Can't wait!
Brandon is tired, but has managed so far not to get our illnesses (same for Pedro). He's still working on the basement- putting in doors and outlet covers, but is pretty excited about the progress. He switched to a different emphasis at his job so is working on getting up to speed in the new department, so is really busy at work. We went to his company Christmas party last weekend though, and everyone spoke very highly of his work! (Of course).
Other BJ news- he was weighed at his doc appt and now weighs 15 lbs. Crazy. The doc says I must have bionic breastmilk! My partners at work constantly remind me that "fat" breastfed babies do not have any increased disposition towards adulthood obesity, which is good. (But not to make anyone feel guilty about formula feeding either.) Luckily for both BJ and me I'm still being able to keep up with him as far as pumping and really have yet to touch my stockpile in the freezer (knock on wood). We'll see how long that lasts.
Anyway, better hit the sack. Here are some recent pics of BJ.
Sitting in the Bumbo chair- what a big boy! (He actually didn't stay long, he doesn't like it yet)
Sleeping- snuck one hand out of the swaddle, hopefully soon he will be able to sleep swaddle free!

3 months
I can't believe it- BJ will be 3 months in 2 days! Crazy. Time has definitely flown, although days away from him seem to be extremely long. BJ started daycare and has been doing well the first week. He and the caregivers are trying to get used to each other (and their communication). Alhtough he still takes the same number of naps at daycare- he has a hard time sleeping for longer than 30-45 min straight there, which means most days we pick up an exhausted little boy. We think the stimulation and playing may be causing some problems since he will sleep anywhere from 1-2.5 hours per nap at home. He continues to lose his hair- poor guy- although my hair is starting to fall out some too (it has to do with the pregnancy and the stress of delivery etc.) so I say we can be bald together! He still loves to eat and has even convinced the caregivers at daycare one day that he needed to eat every 2-2.5 hours, but then wouldn't eat at home that night! They said he really sucked all the bottles down, and they ran out of milk that day. Who knows we weren't there, but we have to remind them and ourselves that he likes to eat and won't refuse a meal if he is offered it! Work is getting a bit easier, although I still hate being away from him. I survived my 12 day in a row stint just recently. I keep counting down my call- 3 more this month! I have to say though, I like post call afternoons- the extended time with him- I'm just usually as exhausted as he is!
We have been working hard on the basement- priming and painting- carpet comes Sat. so it will be awesome to be at a stopping point. I think we will take a break before we start the entertainment center and the wet bar.
Anyway, sorry- quick update, but BJ needs his afternoon snack! Here are some pics of the balding boy- it barely does it justice, but will give you an idea!

Back to work
As many of you knew and some of you might have guessed- I went back to work. Thus my lack of blogging. To say it has been a hard transition would be a huge understatement. I've heard man describe having a child as your holding your heart in your hand- and I would agree. It is really hard to hand your heart over to someone else for the day (and in my case the night too). Fortunately I have had some wonderful people help with the transition. We had some great friends watch BJ the first few days, then he spent a day with his Uncle Matt and Aunt Maria, and then my mom came out to help with the transition. It was wonderful to have her- I can't even describe how great my mom is. Take your average great mom, multiply it by 1000 and you get my mom. Not only did she help watching BJ, doing laundry, but she was a great support, talking to me on the phone about BJ and being there for me when I was crying (and even crying with me). I will never be able to adequately thank her. She is amazing. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful mom- who is my best friend too. BJ is doing well with the transition- his first day of daycare was today and he did well. The place is really organized and clean- I think it will be great for us!

Work has been busy- or just hard to come back running. I've done 3 30 hour shifts so far, so B is learning how great it was that i was taking the nigh duties all this time. I definitely miss them both though when I'm gone that long.
BJ is working on his sleep. He did a 5 night stretch where he slept from a 10:30 p.m. feed to 5:30 or 6 am feed, but he's currently back to waking up at least once during the night. Hopefully that 7 hour stretch will come back soon. He continues to grow, we think he might be close to 14 lbs now- what a chunk. And he is losing his hair- it is pretty impressive since he has a bit of a mohawk plus a rattail but nothing in between!
B has been working on the basement like crazy- we ordered carpet and he is texturing the walls tonight. Hopefully we can prime, paint and get carpet in before Feb. when the Loewen's guys and their girls come to go skiing. Anyway, BJ is done eating and ready to play, so I'll leave you with pics.
